5 Basic Design Flaws to watch out in a House - Home Plans India

House Plan Flaw 1. The most common design flaw that we can observe on any house is that of proper cross ventilation or of sufficient natural lighting inside the house.

Due to smaller plot sizes in India we do face this issue but by creating skylights and ventilators above window may help dramatically in dealing with them.


House Plan Flaw 2. Most commonly the primary focus is towards the living room as it is a very important feature of the house. Any guest or close family is usually met  here so the size of this room is usually big and with smaller plots the bedrooms become extremely smaller in size and shape so as that only a bed and a wardrobe can barely fit in.


This can also be easily dealt with by reducing the passage area and consuming the same for the bedrooms. Also we can reduce the size of the living room comparatively to make some more breathable space in the bedroom.


House Plan Flaw 3. The layout of the kitchen is very important as it needs to be fit in the fridge, cooking range, microwave and the dish washing sink. Along with them there needs to be sufficient space for the women of the house to work which is necessarily not the case. So our advise would be to redo the whole kitchen to make appropriate working space for a kitchen otherwise it leads to lot of frustration for the use on everyday basis.

This is one of our favorite house designs till date because of its simplicity and order in which it orients the complete house. Although this house is included in our small house plan section this is a universal plan layout which will work for weekend bungalow plots the best. For people who preach the ideology “less is more” will get exactly the same feeling with this house.

This immensely small 940 sq.ft. house manages to have a large open living room along with dining area. Even though the bedroom has sliding folding doors & the kitchen is a open kitchen the house till manages to give a feel of one to one space. It perfectly fits the bet by calling itself the “minimalist”.

The shear charm of the house is accentuated with appropriately placed flower beds next to all the window openings in the house which also adds to the idea of living with the nature. This may not be a best plan for city living or for a family of 4 to 6 people, but it does have the possibility of extending itself horizontally if the plot are is available on the sides.

This small house is very similar to FHP – 2009 but this doesn’t have an upper floor. From the main entrance of the house one reached the big living area which overlooks to the open dining space. The family dining is ideally located next to the main kitchen area for easy access.

Although the house doesn’t have a terrace area to itself but it still quite well ventilated due to the number of window openings for all rooms. This is two bedroom house with one common toilet but there is a separate hand wash area in close proximity for after dinner usage.

This wonderful home design begins from the entrance porch which is quite comfortable for parking one car at the entrance porch which ten leads to the main entrance to the living room. This compact house of 1165 Sq.ft. is free from any passage area which in turn makes the rooms look larger. The large living room has its own identity which is not engulfed along with other habitable space. Although there is lot of storage space in the kitchen but its rectilinear shape may give a feeling of cramped space.

The dining area is an intermittent space between the large living hall and the kitchen and also acts as a central common zone within the house. Interesting orientation of the house around a small central garden gives this small house of 1065 Sq.ft. a distinct breath of fresh air. The central garden is something which can be noticed from the minute you approach towards the living room main entrance lobby.

The frontage of the house is dominated by the living room with clear glass façade to give a feeling of an open home. Once you enter the house the high volume of the room catches attention to the point you realize that is shared along with the open dining area which is next to the semi-open Kitchen. As compared to the size of the kitchen a private store for it seemed necessary. This can also take other utilities, like laundry and others also in consideration.

A separate wash area is also accommodated for those after meal hand wash. This single storey house of 1500 Sq.ft. will best fit on a narrow rectangular plot which is mist common to people living in urban locations. The design is also suitable for weekend homes which are based in the outskirt of the city limits. A plot of 50 ft x 72 ft is sufficient enough to make way for this home floor plan.
