ADVANTAGES OF ONE-FLOOR HOUSE PLAN OVER MULTI-FLOOR HOUSE PLAN

Many house developers have been in dilemma over the choice between one-floor house plans and multiple-floor house plans. It always seems like a good idea to have two or three floor house plan for a family as there are extra rooms which in case of guests and children can work as Guest Bedroom, Study, Kids Play Area, Puja room, etc. But a very common observation has been there that a more area and space is always welcome at the beginning of house construction, but over the years when the family starts living and using the space that there are lots to maintain and deal with, which in turn is waste of initial capital investment. Rather conserve funds for the overall maintenance of the house over period of time.
With this article we would like to raise few reasons which we feel can explain why it is preferable to choose one-floor house plans.

1.Accesibility
Home owners who are elderly favours one-floor housing plans because these plans have no stairs inside the house. This means that they can easily access all parts of their house without any much struggle. The way these house plans are designed it ensures that the elderly home owners obtain maximum utility from it.

2. The Ease of Renovation and Maintenance
The everywhere-accessibility of one-floor house plans also implies that it is easier to renovate and carry out maintenance works. The easier the renovation and maintenance, the lower the cost.

3. Efficient use of Energy
One-floor house plans require much less energy to heat the rooms than Multiple-floor house plans. This is because Multiple-House plans require more complex heating and cooling systems.

4. Affordability
Multiple-Floor housing plans requires a lot of planning and structural design analysis as compared to one-floor plans. These services are not offered for free but at a premium cost. These costs are included in the overall house constructions costs and therefore increases the cost hence making unaffordable to many.

5. Ease of Extension
As opposed to Multiple-Floor house plans, one-floor house plans can be easily extended for more spacious rooms for example to get expansive living rooms, bedrooms, etc. Multiple-floor plans will require a lot of planning and structural analysis before expansion is done. This also implies higher costs of expansion and time.

6. Regulations

In some areas, the government has placed restrictions on the height regulations and those who contravene these regulations are heavily fined and even their homes brought down. To avoid these fines and losses as a result of bringing down the already built houses the home owners can choose to have one-floor plan.

7. Safety
One-floor house plans are more safe in the event of earth tremors, earthquakes or fires, simply because of the ability to easily evacuate from the house. The absence of stairs also means that there are reduced accidents experienced in the house, stairs are known to cause fatal accidents and at times even taking life of the house occupants.

8. Use of natural light
Under one-floor house plan, home owners can use glass in some part of the wall and this will enable occupants use sufficient amount of natural light during the day hence saving on energy costs. This is not likely to be possible under Multiple-Floor house plan because the walls need to be strong so as to support other rooms on the upstairs.

9. Efficient use of space
Under Multiple-floor house plans, stairs and elevators consumes so much space but one-floor house plan utilises each and every space therefore all the space available is utilised.

10. Easier connection to outdoor living spaces
One-floor housing plan can be connected together to expansive outdoor spaces such as verandas and beautiful gardens surrounding the house, that is by eliminating barriers between the indoor living room and outdoor living space. By use of transparent glass in between the indoor living space and beautifully managed gardens. This brings an exceptional beauty into life.

How to get your house designed while keeping the budget in check.

In current times, it has become increasingly difficult for people to build their house, particularly for people on a tight budget. Based on our experience in building homes, this dilemma is not necessarily due to the ever increasing price of raw materials and labour, but may arise from something as simple as not having a proper house planning from the get-go.

There is certainly no infallible method of making a house on a budget. Most methods are probably good ones, as millions of people have built millions of homes, based on their own idiosyncrasies. But since it is the most important buy for the family, the construction of a house must always be preceded with reflection of the most serious magnitude. Decisions should be carried out on a bedrock of information gathering that paints a complete and concrete picture of your new home. Remember, there is no turning back once the plan has been handed over to the contractor.

Before finding a cost effective plan for your home, it is important to consult your family first. This is a joint decision, as many times, house plans are but the expressions of what every member of that family imagine their dream home to be. You can simply opt for a ready-made house plan, which is meant for plot owners with an adventurous heart, or get a custom plan diligently and professionally designed for you by our staff of in-house designers at a fraction of the cost.

Before laying down the first brick of your new home, consider having a robust house plan and budgeting so that you and your family can relate to. All construction endeavours will revolve around this one schematic and with a good budgetary house plan designed by professionals, you simply cannot go wrong. You will be thankful for years to come.

What is Rain Water Harvesting and how it can be done for your house?

Water is the most essential requirement of our lives yet we take it for granted. We have started becoming aware of the need of water supply particularly in these parts of India. Rain water harvesting is a method used for gathering and storing rainfall from housetops or landscapes. It is done by using simple methods like using containers or complex ways such as subversive check dams. The methods that are utilized in India are as a result of old civilizations which contribute to the water supply in remote regions.

We benefit a lot from rain water harvesting. By capturing, we decrease our dependence on the water storage compartments. Thus, there will be no need to enlarge the dams or construct others. You will also not be affected by the sudden shortage of water supply that takes place more often. It is economical to yields your own water as you will save on the water charges. It is also cheap to yield comparing to digging a well. It takes a lot equipment cost and labor to dig a well. Yielding rainfall reduces the chances of floods erupting towards the homesteads. It is safe for the environment. By sparing more water on the landscape the better it will be for the living creatures. This is because when people use water from rivers and lakes it destructs the eco system.

The harvested rain fall is more suitable to plants than the municipal water. This is because the rainwater has not been deprived of any minerals through chemicals. This is why plants respond well to rain water. It is also safe for human consumption. All you need is just purification. Purchasing drinking water is quite expensive and damaging to the environment due to the plastic bottles. The overall cost of energy is reduced. A lot of electricity is consumed when pumping and cleansing water. Through rain water harvesting, all these expenses are cut down. Rainfall causes soil erosion. By capturing the rain fall you avoid the showers from flowing down into the sewerage system and destroying the terrain.

How to do rainwater harvesting

The first thing you need to consider in constructing a harvest system is the collection area, storage devices and delivery system. The collection area is anywhere where the rain showers do not fall on the earth. It can include the roof of your house. You need to find out how to do rainwater harvesting by discovering the amount of water that your roof can capture and how much water you need. A farmer who is located in an arid area with a large landscape of plants will need more water compared with own who has a small vegetable yard. The more drums that you have the more rainfall you will capture.

The delivery system is composed of the gutters and downspouts. They are located along the rim of the top. The material can be plastic or aluminum of which it is not relevant. However, the size does matter. They have to be broad in order to accommodate the water flowing off the rooftop. The common size of gutters is five or six inches in terms of broadness. A gutter of five inches will need a downspout of three inches whereas the one for six inches will need a downspout for four inches. The delivery system is also composed of filters. This is important as it will prevent debris from blocking the downspout. If you are located in a place where insects are common it is advisable to use a fine-mesh aluminum filter. This is to avoid the insects from standing on the water in the drum.

The storage devices can either be containers or drums. You also have the option of constructing your own. In either ways, the main aim is to ensure that they are located appropriately. It is good to place it near the place where water is needed most. Dig a three inches extent and broadness of your cinder block bottom. Put gravel in the area up to a level of a third of it. This is so as to make sure your foundation is water-free all the time by flattening the cinder blocks. The more you raise the drums the better because you will get more pressure while tapping the water. Sometimes rainfall can be excess and the drums will overflow. The gravel beneath the cinder blocks will redirect the water from the bottom.

How solar energy can reduce energy consumption for your weekend bungalow.

Solar energy refers to energy derived from the radiation of the sun. This energy is abundant, clean, sustainable and renewable is converted to thermal and electric energy (light homes, heat water and electricity). Use of skylights in home construction has helped to bring in more light into the interior rooms thereby reducing energy expenditure. Being renewable means that it will be used for many years. It's a fact that the energy from the sun to the Earth for one hour can meet the global energy needs for almost one year. Research shows that almost 86% of the world's main energy consumption is derived from fossil fuels which are non-renewable since they take hundreds of years to decompose. When burnt, these fossil fuels produce carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxides, and many toxic gases that contribute to the Global warming. In some places, people experience acid rain which is as a result of these compounds. It's for this reason that on 25th September 2015, world leaders met to commit to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals which addresses on the need to have affordable and clean energy. As a result, most of the governments have introduced cheap credits and sponsorship to encourage investment in solar and other clean systems of energy. More than two-thirds of India's population is exposed to high percentage of indoor pollination caused by biomass smoky stoves and the energy prices are continuously growing since they are not able to meet the demand. For this reason, solar energy is continuously gaining ground. Solar energy technology advancement is shifting the focus from unhealthy world of darkness to a healthy world filed with hope. Solar panels are easy to install, reliable and require little maintenance. The panels create electricity in very few millimetres.

The technology used to generate both heat and electricity is different and there are currently two types of systems. These are:

a) Solar Thermal Heating - This is a technology used to warm domestic water from the sun's radiation. Flat plate collectors are preferred because they are cheap. The pipes placed underneath the flat metal sheet run the hated water to a household storage cylinder for use.

b) Solar Photo-voltaic Panels - The panels placed on the roof convert light from the sun to electricity for domestic use. Any unused energy is transferred back to the grid or stored to batteries if installed. Fixed panels are cheaper than tiles.

Benefits of using solar energy
1. Reduces electricity bills - Solar energy helps to meet some of the energy needs e.g. heating water and home lighting, automatically reducing the energy bills. You will make money from the reduced electricity bills and the extra funds can be invested elsewhere.

2. Increases Home value - A home improvement increases the overall value and this is a case when you install solar panels. They make the home more attractive to potential buyers.

3. Solar energy is free and abundantly found. Its availability makes it more popular than the other sources of energy.

4. Green houses usage - Solar energy is converted by green plants to chemical energy to make food and fossil fuels through a process known as photosynthesis.

5. Heat from the solar energy panels can be used to heat water, dry or pasteurize food.

6. Solar energy is non pollutant and therefore recognized as the future alternative source of energy which will help to reduce the effects of global warming brought about by use of fossil fuels.

7. Solar panels require little maintenance because the batteries do not need water or other regular services and they last for long hence no recurrent costs.

8. Solar energy is environmentally friendly.

Challenges of using Solar energy
1. It cannot be created at night. The power generation is reduced on a cloudy day or when the sun is not at an optimal angle and this is caused by the fact that most of these solar panels are in a fixed location.

2. Today's solar panels are yet to convert the sun’s rays to electricity to their maximum. Research shows that the most efficient panels only manage 20% of the ray’s conversion.

Technology is at an advanced stage and soon solar energy will have a variety of uses including heating water for commercial or industrial use. The sun unlike the fossil fuels is here to stay giving us clean and reusable energy and this can help us to be less dependent on the non-renewable and costly sources of energy.

How to design a house with proper Light and Ventilation?

How to design a house with proper Light and Ventilation? 10 Design ideas which can be incorporated during House Planning.

A sustainable house design can not only have accomplished building materials and layout of the building but it also needs to have good amount of professionalism offered towards achieving maximum satisfaction from the targeted design which has proper consideration for light and ventilation. In order to come up with a good house plan, you will need to put a certain amount of consideration as well as number of features to look out for in order to ensure that you attain proper lighting and ventilation within the houses.
Among the many tips to look out for in order to make a proper plan for a house would include the following ten features to achieve proper ventilation and lighting:

1.The building Layout
The layout of the building would be in such a way that it should direct the right amount of sun light into the house providing just enough amount of heat to keep the house warm during coolers seasons and at the same time not being too hot during the warmer seasons. Different design layouts for the building would provide different methods of keeping the house cool and fresh. This is by applying different ventilation techniques purely depending on the design sensibility for the house.

2. Window design
The design and layout of the windows are aimed at letting in as much amount of natural light as possible thereby enhancing proper illumination internally. This is a great way of letting in energy free and cost effective day light into the house. This helps in reducing the overall electricity consumption costs for the house.

3. Shading
A proper house plan should include the construction of a house in an area that has a large amount of shade. Shades would help in preventing the entry of direct sunlight into the room or building. By doing so you will enable fresh cool air to go through the room keeping it well ventilated.

4. Insulation
Insulation of the whole house is a great way of keeping your house well ventilated at the same time maintaining proper lighting. This also includes the insulation of the windows to regulate the amount of light and heat that is coming within the house. This would assist you in saving costs associated with heating the room at night when it is very cold.

5.Thermal mass
The quality of air inside the house can be regulated by installing insulators or thermal mass gadgets which help in improving the cycle of air inside the house by maintaining an even temperature.

6. Ventilation
With proper ventilation for your house, you will be able to allow and encourage free air circulation into and out of the room. This means all the warm air within the room will easily be directed outside while cool air from outside would come in and fill the vacuum.

7. Interior ventilation
It is not only the outer features and designs that will help you make sure you keep the right amount of light or air circulation in check, the interior design is also an important factor in all this. The bathroom and kitchen for example are the main sources of heat and moisture within the house. Therefore these two spaces requires proper placement in the floor plan layout for proper ventilation and also to ensure that these are directed outside the house.

8. Structural ventilation
There is the possibility of moisture roasting and rotting inside your house. In order to prevent this from happening, you will need to have adequate ventilation in the basement or in the upper elevation to take away the hot air within the room which rises up. This is very important to be considered while the building plan is been worked out.

9.Roof ventilation
If there is sloping roof designed for the house, then there needs to be enough cut-outs/ pockets through which there can be cross ventilation of breeze through the house. As we know well that cold air settles down in a room and hot air rises up so we need to have proper outlets to let this hot air escape to the external atmosphere. This can only be achieved at the design stage so it becomes an important element to consider.

10. Foundation ventilation
In case you have unfinished basement or a house on sloping contoured site then you probably need extra vents which can ventilate this space and not allow it to be dumped with dirt or so.

It is therefore very important that you involve qualified architect to design your house who can take care of all these features. Absence of proper light and ventilation is something you will realize when the construction is complete and your life’s investment has been spent, so it’s better to invest wisely along with an architect who has a vision to take care of these features.
